Walk by sea to the Ile de Ré

A budding privateer or Crusoe in search of tranquility, we all have a good reason to take to the sea in the summer. How about a trip to the Ile de Ré? Put on your sunglasses and discover our 3 tips for sailing in freedom.

Tip #1

Choose the easy way

How to organize your sea trip on the Ile de Ré ? It’s child’s play. All you have to do is :

🗓 Consult the tide schedules. Without that, you’ll stay at the dock! (That would be a shame).

🎫 Buy your ticket at the Châtelaillon Tourist Office.

🚴 Take your bike with you. The best way to crisscross the island at your own pace.

🚂 Bring your bike on the train. Châtelaillon station, imminent departure!

⚓️ Down to La Rochelle, 800 meters from the embarkation place at the port.

Why make complicated when you can make châtelaillonnais?

Tip #2

Admire the sea

Board the L’Amour des îles water shuttle (you can’t make that up!) and let yourself be seduced by the calm landscape that passes by. A passage under the majestic bridge of the island, a flirtation with the ramparts of Saint-Martin, and you have arrived in one of the most beautiful villages of Ré la Blanche.

Psst: Don’t forget the cap and sunscreen for your little sea dogs! The sun can shine hard at this time of year.

Gilding your face

Slower than summer and milder than winter, spring is the perfect season to enjoy the island by bike. Here’s to colorful alleys, fragrant gardens and the famous La Martinière ice cream cones. It’s hard to choose between taking it easy and basking in the sun…

The suite? To port, it will be the great Whale Lighthouse and its breathtaking view of the sea. To starboard, it will be a unique walk through the famous marshes. A visit that does not lack salt!
