The banks of the Charente, at the heart of the "Grand site Estuaire de la Charente" project, offer a landscape of water and natural meadows, home to herons, egrets, harriers, swans, ducks and small marsh waders. Some of these birds find it an ideal place to raise their broods. The banks of the Charente, the mudflats, salt meadows and carrelets, and a privileged view of Fort Lupin, herald the approaching estuary.
